Of interest to libraries is the photo and caption on page 43, about the Patriot Act and the government intrusion into the circulation records of public libraries. This book provides an introduction to many of the various jobs with the Federal Bureau of Investigation such as special agent, intelligence examiner, and forensic examiner. It covers what they do in each job and how to prepare for a career in the FBI.
After grabbing the reader’s attention with explosion of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, this book gives a short history of the FBI and how the focus has changed. Using cases from the past, it tells what different job groupings do, how they are trained, how they are organized, and the future needs of the FBI. Besides special agents, several behind the scenes jobs are highlighted.
There are extensive chapter notes, a generous glossary, sources for further reading and a good sized index.
The bright color photographs enhance the readable text. Captions aid understanding. Text blocks highlight extra interesting additional information and blocked headings draw attention to main ideas. Very pleasing for perusing or in depth reading. Great for career exploration classes at middle school or high school levels. JT
