For students who love crime investigation, this book
provides a look at how cold cases are solved and why so many go unsolved.
Colorful illustrations and quick fact bubbles expand upon the text. For grades
6-12.   Cold cases, crime cases that have not been solved, fascinate many people.
This book focuses on the techniques used to solve crime cases including the use
of national databases of fingerprints and DNA, searching with cadaver finding
dogs, modern crime lab techniques,  the use of forensic anthropologists, and
ground-penetrating radar. Reasons why cases go unsolved are also highlighted.
There is career information embedded within the book as well as mention of
specific murders and rapes that have been solved by intensive investigation.
An index, annotated further reading, chapter notes, and glossary complete this
book. While not an essential purchase for school libraries this book will surely
spark interest in a segment of the student population and get some otherwise
nonreaders reading.
Crime Scene Investigations contains 32 titles. Engaging
reading and great illustrations with fact bubbles will thrill the student who is
interested in crime.  Specific cases and investigative techniques as well as
career information. Grades 6-12.    McNicol,Lois
