This engaging sequel to Salt follows the lives of Hari and Pearl’s children as they attempt to rid the world of Gools -- evil creatures that come from another place and time and suck the life out of anyone they come across.  The quest to solve and nullify the Gools in the world that Gee has created provides readers with an adventurous read.  To eliminate the Gools, Xantee, Lo and Duro set out on a journey to find Hari’s father, who they hope can help them find where and how the Gools get their strength. Many characters from the first volume of this proposed trilogy show up in this book as well, and while this book can stand on its own, reading them in order is beneficial.  As with the first book, Gee has created strong male and female leads, an interesting tale, and a conclusion that wraps up the story and sets the reader up for the next book.
