McClintock, Norah. One Way.

McClintock, Norah.  One Way.  Orca  125p  $9.95 978-1-4598-0172-1 ms/hs Orca Soundings    VG    Conflict

When Kenzie accidentally runs into his ex-girlfriend with his bicycle, some think he intentionally ran her down. Full of twists and turns, this is a book that will appeal to boys and girls. It is a hi/lo reader for grades 7-10.

Kenzie is distracted while riding his bicycle.  When the girl he runs down is taken by ambulance to the hospital he assumes she will recover.  However, when his father hires a lawyer to represent Kenzie in a possible aggravated assault charge, Kenzie is determined to get to the bottom of the accusations he faces.  Norah McClintock has done it again -- filling the book with suspense from the first to last page in vocabulary suitable for hi/lo readers.  The only problem with the novel is the extent of injuries caused by a mere bicycle; some readers may assume that Kenzie was riding a motorcycle or motor scooter. Emotions run high in this book that discusses friendship, loyalty, family relationships and high-school romance.  Could there be a sequel since Stassi, the ex-girlfriend, comes out of her coma and begins to speak?  Stay tuned.
