Claudette is not a sweet damsel
in distress -- in fact, she is the damsel who wants the adventure and the
opportunity to slay the dangerous giant! Claudette decides that she is going to search for a giant to slay
and starts on her journey with her baby brother and Marie, an aspiring
princess. Their old teacher has told the children
many stories of brave heroes and terrible monsters. Claudette enjoys hearing the stories
but she also wants to go search for a giant to slay so that she can become a hero. Meanwhile, there is a story circulating
around the village about a baby-feet-eating giant. Claudette decides that she will save the babies by slaying the giant, and the whole enterprise turns into an adventure for Claudette, her baby brother Gaston, who really
only wants to be a chef, and Marie. Together they set out on their own
with a wooden sword and some camping equipment. The
adventures they have along the way make this graphic novel an entertaining trip
into the enchanted woods. Gaston's choices of culinary
delights will have you laughing at his ingenuity in finding the ingredients he
needs.
The novel is funny, full of adventures for all, and above all, the kids are adorable and sweet as they
travel through the scary forest.
The book is beautifully illustrated and
will become very popular with kids looking for adventure
and mystery. This book has it all, plus an excellent surprising ending.
