Schriber,
Joe. Perry’s
Killer Playlist. Houghton Mifflin 2012 208p ISBN 978-0-547-60117-5 ms/hs Hardback E-BN Adventure
In this sequel to Au
Revoir, Crazy European Chick, Perry Stormaire is getting ready for college
at Columbia University in the fall. His
summer includes a European tour with his band, Inchworm. He lands in Venice, Italy, and goes to Harry’s Bar to ask about Gobi Zaksauskas. Almost at once, he faces trouble. He and Gobi jump into a canal and escape the bad guys in a wild
boat chase. It seems they no sooner escape from one situation than then are
entrapped in another. They develop
a unique dynamic in which each one always seems to get the other out
of a bad situation -- that is, until they go into hiding in a nice quiet Swiss town in a house disguised as an
old shop. Their peace and quiet
is
interrupted by a full military attack, bombs and all.
Perry’s family is kidnapped by Armitage (the tour promoter) and his assistant, Paula. At this point, Perry realizes that his European tour has just been a front for finding Gobi. The good guys win in the end, but all does not end well for everyone.
The book is a wild read that takes you across Europe in a unique way, with lots of stress in each of the various situations in which Perry and Gobi find themselves. It is a book that readers will not put down happily, very well written that will appealing to young readers. It is recommended as a book for any high-school library.
