Llimos,
Anna. Earth-Friendly
Crafts from Recycled Stuff in Five
Easy Steps. Enslow 2013 32p ISBN 978-0-7660-4190-5 series: Earth-Friendly Crafts elem E-Bnes Nonfiction
Each of thirteen crafts is broken into
five steps from gathering the materials to finishing
the final product. However, in the process of paring down the steps to just five,
several intermediary steps are often omitted, or multiple steps are combined into one. For example, the
octopus on page 24 is orange. Step one has the reader painting the Styrofoam ball, but
not the bubble wrap, or the plane on page 14, where step #3 is actually three
steps. Both omissions or
combinations are fine, so long as children read carefully or have someone older
present to help. Otherwise there will
be frustration when the final product is not what is presented. Each craft begins
with a list of materials, and
there are illustrations for each step to help readers follow
along. The book concludes
with lists for further reading, both print and web, and an index (from easy to hard).
Complete in four books, this series
titled Earth-friendly Crafts is filled with great ideas for children to
create. This is the perfect set of books for a rainy or snowy day when kids
cannot come up with something to do on their own. Parents will love these books, as will their children, teachers and
librarians.
Summary: Thirteen different craft ideas that are made from repurposed items are
described in this book.
