Rundell, Katherine.  Rooftoppers.   Simon & Schuster  2013  288p ISBN 978-1-4424-9058-1  elem/ms    VG-BN   Fantasy

Sophie was the victim of a shipwreck. She was found in a cello case and taken home by an eccentric bachelor who home schooled her.  She and Charlie eventually set off to find her mother in Paris.  The hunt took her across the rooftops of Paris.

Magical moments will be found on every turn of the page as Sophie hunts down the mother she lost in a shipwreck as a baby.  Her upbringing as a child in the home of a bachelor has allowed her to become an unusual person.  Her adventures in Paris with Rooftoppers (a band of children who live secretly on the rooves of old buildings), such as Matteo (a rooftopper), Safi, and Anatasia (arboisiers, or tree dwellers) provide page-turning anticipation for the reader.
