Homer. The Iliad. Candlewick Press 2015 151p $19.99 ISBN 978-0-7636-7832-6 ms/hs
Classics E-BN
This edition of The Iliad takes a classic,
sometimes complicated story, and
makes it extremely accessible to young readers. The pictures accompanying the text are incredibly well done and
complement the story wonderfully. The
author is able to capture the personalities of the war’s main characters with well-crafted
dialogue and to depict all the principal events to accurately tell the tale. The violence is toned
down as much as is possible for a war story, as are the references to sex and women. Recommended for middle- and high-school libraries and
classrooms.
Summary: A retelling of Homer’s epic
classic The Iliad, about the final days of The Trojan War.
