Eve, Laure. The Graces.

Eve, Laure.  The Graces.  Amulet see Harry Abrams  2016     335p  $18.95  ISBN 978-1-4197-2123-6  ms/hs     Fantasy  VG

The Grace family (Fenrin, Thalia, and Summer) have captivated, intrigued, and bespelled both the school and the town. River, as the new girl in town, wants to be included, and especially wants to become “best friends forever” with Summer Grace. River would also like to attract Fenrin’s eye, even though he is the “love ‘em and leave ‘em” type. The family dynamics and occurrences of magic throughout the story make River realize that she can’t depend on others and must take responsibility for her own actions.
The clear, precise, and compelling prose captures readers’ interest and provides an ending that will make them want to reread the novel for missed clues. Does such an ending warrant a sequel?

Summary: River is a loner and the new girl in town. She wants to be best friends with Summer Grace and learn some magic spells. This is a mature read because it uses explicit language, and there are under-age alcoholic scenes, but it is a spine-tingling read.
