Pip Bartlett loves all magical creatures.  She especially loves unicorns but is challenged by Regent Maximus, who is afraid of everything.  At the prestigious competition, she and her friend Tomas help in different departments.  Tomas falls in love with rockshines, a sort of sheep that go invisible when excited.  They both work with Maximus so that he can even enter the ring to compete.  Meanwhile, someone is sabotaging the competition by cutting off the tails of champion unicorns.  Many of the circumstances are very funny, as Pip and Tomas come up with novel solutions for Maximus.  It helps that Pip can talk to all magical creatures.  Besides helping Maximus, Pip also solves the mystery of who is stealing the unicorn tails.

This title will be a hit with middle-grade girls who dream about unicorns.  The writing makes it seem that they are possible. It is funny and exciting at the same time.

Summary: Pip Bartlett loves all magical creatures, especially unicorns.  She gets involved with a competition that involves adventure and mystery, as well as some humorous situations.
