Fourteen year old Trey wakes up one morning and learns shortly that he is a werewolf; not just a regular one but one who can save the world. Assisted by a vampire and his daughter, Trey experiences scary circumstances and the ending leads one to believe there will another book to follow. When fourteen year old Trey wakes up one morning in his orphanage, he has a terrible headache, his clothes are torn up, and his room is a mess. He has no memory of what happened and this is where the story starts. A man named Lucien comes and claims he is Trey’s uncle and scoots him away. Lucien isn’t an uncle but is a vampire who knew Trey’s parents before they were killed and tells him that he is the last heir to the werewolf line that can save the world. Lucien’s evil vampire brother is trying to harm Trey because of this prophecy. Lucien, his daughter who is half vampire, and their friend Tom try to help Trey learn to turn into the huge beast in a safe manner, even suggesting wearing Lycra to prevent ripping of his clothing during the transformation due to its stretchability. There are moments of humor, horror and even a hint of romance with the vampire’s daughter. The ending of the book leads one to believe that this story will be continued by another title, perhaps a series, and when I checked, there is indeed a book coming out in February. At the end of the book there is an amusing DEMONENCYCLOPEDIA, subtitled “a guide to the Netherworld and its creatures, that details types of creatures in the demon world. This title will be a very good selection for libraries in schools with grades 5-9 that have students clamoring for monster reading.
